More About Our Programs

  • ETV Canada Verification Entity
The EWMCE is a recognized verification and testing entity for the Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) Canada Program.  For more information see: www.etvcanada.ca
  • Alberta Innovation Voucher Program Service Provider
The EWMCE’s Technology Development Program is a recognized service provider for voucher funding recipients under the Alberta Innovation Voucher Program.
  • Ideal Facility for Wastewater Product Development and Testing
The Technology Development Program, centered at the EPCOR Gold Bar Wastewater Treatment Plant operates a 350 m² research facility and complementary laboratory.  The facility provides access to numerous on-site wastewater process streams including: raw sewage, primary effluent, waste activated sludge, final effluent, digested sludge, lagoon supernatant and centrate. The waste streams are available for both bench scale work and large scale pilot projects requiring large stable volumes. The facility is also able to supplement, import or generate waste streams with customized parameters.
  • Pilot Processes
The EWMCE’s Wastewater Research and Training Centre (WRTC) Pilot Facility boasts a complete pilot scale wastewater treatment process incorporating numerous primary, secondary and tertiary treatment options. The pilot facility boasts two identical process trains, ideal for control‐test type development/verification or research studies. Each bioreactor train is customizable and can be operated in various Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) configurations or activated sludge applications.  The EWMCE also operates pilot scale anaerobic digestion and tertiary membrane treatment facilities.
  • Specialized Expertise
The EWMCE's Technology Development Program is staffed by a multidisciplinary science and engineering team of industry experts specialized in technology development and verification. The Technology Development Program can also draw on the support of the EWMCE's Research and Advisory Services Programs and the resources of the Center's partners to help tackle a wide range of highly specialized projects and technologies.
