The level of treatment provided by modern wastewater treatment systems is truly remarkable. However, continuing improvements in monitoring techniques and in the science surrounding treatment processes, trace contaminants and environmental and human health implications means that there is still a great deal of work to be done. These challenges are being met through research studies and technology demonstration projects in water re-use, biomonitoring assays, advanced treatment technologies and organic wastewater contaminants.

Fish Biomonitoring Study - A state-of-the-art vertebrate model system to evaluate the public health risk of reusable water

Calibration of Activated Sludge Model - "Hydromantis" is a software program designed for the modeling and simulation of municipal wastewater treatment plants. This project will modify and recalibrate the software.

Secondary Clarifier Research Study - Researchers are using computational fluid dynamics to investigate improving the design and performance of secondary clarifiers at EPCOR's Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Aerated Grit Chamber Study - An investigation is being conducted using laser measurement techniques and fluid dynamics to study was of improving the removal efficiencies of the aerated grit chamber at the Gold Bar facility.
