Freeze Separation for Salt Recycling - Improvements in the innovative sand recycling process are being investigated.  Studies are determining the best technologies for removing suspended solids from the water used to wash the sand for recycling.  In addition, a freeze separation technique is being evaluated as a way to concentrate salt from snow pack melt water so that it can be collected and re-used for street sand application in winter.

Street Sand Recycling - The Street Sand Recycling Project developed a technique to clean and recycle street sand for reuse, including a freeze separation step for removing salt from the wastewater.
