Home Research Projects Energy from Waste
Waste to Energy Print E-mail

Interest is increasing in developing energy from waste technologies, due partly to concerns about climate change and today’s focus on renewable energy. Three areas of focus are: utilization of landfill gas, utilization of biogas from anaerobic digestion in wastewater treatment, and gasification of solid waste.

Red Deer Biogas Study - A project to determine the economic feasibility of anaerobic digestion given the regulatory, technical, and economic conditions in Alberta.

Solid Waste Gasification  - A project investigating using leftover residuals that remain following solid waste composting and recycling to produce refuse-derived fuel.

WERF Co-Digestion - Exploration of the potential to add organic waste products such as greases and oils to wastewater solids for biogas production, at a pilot scale.
