Through its members, the Centre delivers practitioner training for individuals, corporations, institutions, and municipalities. Programs are developed to meet clients’ specific needs, either by adapting existing Centre training courses or by developing customized material. Training is offered at one of Edmonton’s state-of-the-art research and training facilities for solid waste or wastewater, or on-site at client facilities, including overseas. If required, courses are delivered in Spanish or Mandarin.
Design and delivery of custom training programs will be draw on the expertise of the University of Alberta and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, both Centre members. The University of Alberta offers world-class teaching facilities combined with recognized specialists in a range of disciplines. The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) has long-term experience in national and international education and program development and offers diploma, certificate and part-time programs in waste management-related areas. Featured Project: Hazardous Waste Training
The Centre was instrumental in developing a hazardous waste management training manual for Nunavut municipal landfill operators and delivering a training course in the community of Iqaluit. The comprehensive manual and course outline were developed in close cooperation with the municipal and regional governments. Special attention was given to the unique factors that influence northern waste management systems, such as the remote location and the difficulty and expense of shipping. In the future, the Iqaluit waste management training manual will be used in other communities throughout the North. | | |
